Today show hosts were speechless when an interview with the eight-year-old schoolboy who was accidently tackled by Scott Morrison took a wild turn.

The prime minister was on the campaign trail visiting the Devonport Strikers Soccer Club on Wednesday, in the electorate of Braddon in Tasmania, when he accidentally bowled over one of the club’s young players.

Luca Fauvette, 8, appeared on the Today show on Thursday with his grandmother Joy to give his side of the PM’s hilarious blunder.

Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon were in fits of giggles when Luca reached into his pocket and brandished a red card, declaring the tackle ‘should have been a penalty’.

Langdon replied: ‘I say sin bin for 10 (minutes)’.

Mr Morrison joined in on a training game with kids when he made a run towards the goal and collided with Luca, the club’s centre forward.

‘So we were playing soccer and I think someone tried to pass it to me or Mr Morrison and what happened (was) he tripped and he was trying not to fall on top of me,’ Luca said.

‘So he tried to fall underneath me.’

The adorable interview took a bizarre turn after Langdon said they had heard the young boy was ‘a bit of a rapper’ and invited him to ‘bust a rhyme’ on air.

‘I was at the bar with my drinking team … And it was me Jack Daniels and the homey Jim Beam,’ Luca began.

‘Knock knock… Who’s there… I don’t care… I just got scared over there.. Hey, why are you looking at me… You aren’t blind… You can see… Why are you trying to keep up with me… I’m only in first grade… But I’ve got a rap degree.

‘Sit back home boys… We’ve got it all this morning. We know who we are… And you can represent… To collect the rent hand ball because you represent…

‘I’ve been rapping since I was two… With only one shoe…’ he continued, before the program cut to an ad break.

Mr Morrison complimented the little boy for how he handled the bizarre situation.

‘A shout out to young Luca for being such a good sport,’ Mr Morrison wrote on his Facebook page.

‘You may have seen we had a bit of a collision at club training tonight at the Devonport Strikers Football Club in Tasmania. I spoke to Luca and his mum Ali tonight to check in on him and he was in good form.

‘Great to be able to have a good chat to him about his love of football and to hear he’s had three hat-tricks in his budding career already.’

The tackle made headlines across the country as well as globally, and immediately went viral on social media – with Fox Sport AFL360 hosts jokingly analysed the tackle.

The prime minister was touring the Devonport Strikers soccer ground as he pledged $3.5 million for a new grandstand along with upgrades to the field and lighting.

He could see the funny side after the clash, telling parents he might be able to help with the construction work.

‘I think that when that grandstand comes down, I hear it might need a bit of a bulldozer to knock it down, so I might be able to help with that,’ he said.

Mr Morrison felt it necessary to define himself one week from polling day as a ‘bulldozer’, but promised to become better at ‘listening to Australians’.

The prime minister added that he has what was needed to continue to lead the nation beyond Saturday’s election.
