Jim Carrey is no liar liar with this candid confession.
The 62-year-old actor revealed his true motivation for reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3—and it wasn’t because he was especially fascinated by this character’s story.
“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius. Which is a bit of a stretch,” he told the Associated Press in a Dec. 10 video posted to X, formerly Twitter. “And, you know, it’s just I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly.”
This confession came two years after The Truman Show actor teased his departure from the spotlight. He nearly had his retirement all planned out.
“I’m retiring. I’m being fairly serious,” he told Access Hollywood in a March 2022 interview. “If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s gonna be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”
