The Met Office has said Britain will bathe in 16C sun this weekend and it looks good for the London Marathon too.

Temperatures this weekend are starting strong as the Met Office posted on Twitter/X: ‘Put your sunglasses on standby! Saturday will be the sunniest day of the #weekend for most of us.’

‘Plenty of sunshine’ has been forecast for this afternoon in southern and eastern parts of England.

Some cloud in Scotland could move down the country, according to the Met Office in a video update by Ellie Glaisyer.

There are highs of 14 to 15C forecast today and ‘perhaps 16 degrees,’ with the North Sea coasts experiencing slightly cooler temperatures, the national weather forecaster has said.

Cloud and some patches of rain has been predicted in some areas for this evening and the temperature will drop, however.

Those running the 26.2 mile London Marathon tomorrow could be in luck as the Met Office has said there is ‘plenty of sunshine’ forecast for southern and eastern parts of England.

Although eastern parts of Scotland could see some rain and grey sky in the early morning, as well as showers in the southeast of the country.

The cloud and rain is forecast to move into the north of England later in the day, but there are highs of 15C and the possibility of 16C – however a breeze could take away some of the heat in the south.

There is a chance of some showers in the afternoon too on the southeastern coast, according to the Met Office.

On the Met Office’s London Marathon forecast, presenter Alex Deakin said: ‘If you’ve been training hard for the London Marathon, you’ve probably been training in the rain and under the influence of low pressure.’

He added that the weather is now ‘shifting’ and that high pressure could bring good weather.

The meteorologist added: ‘That high sticks around on Sunday for the big race but it starts to edge back a bit further west which means there will be a bit of a northerly breeze in the southeast and quite a bit of cloud around as well.

‘The sun is strong this time of year so while 13°C in the afternoon is still on the cool side during the race, if you are running once the sun pops up then it will feel pretty warm.’

Cloud, some showers and average April temperatures have been forecast for the beginning of the week.
