A British tourist has died after having a hair transplant and dental treatment in Turkey.

The 36-year-old arrived in Istanbul last week for his hair procedure at a clinic in the Fulya district of Istanbul, before having dental work the following day in the city’s Ayazaga neighbourhood.

He returned to his hotel in the Sisli district following the treatment and fell ill before medics were notified, according to local reports.

The man was rushed by ambulance to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he died at around 4.30pm.

His body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy, but no information regarding the cause of death has yet been released.

Following the autopsy, the man’s body was collected by his family and returned to his home.

An investigation has now been launched into the incident.

The Daily Mail has approached the Foreign Office for comment.

Turkey has become a popular destination for hair transplants, representing nearly 60 per cent of the global hair transplant tourism market thanks to its affordable, high-quality procedures.

The Turkish Healthcare Travel Council reports over 1 million people travel to Turkey annually for hair restoration treatments, and according to Dr Serkan Aygin Clinic, the country is expected to receive 1.1million hair transplant patients in 2025.

The incident comes just four months after another British tourist died after undergoing £1,500 hair transplant surgery in Turkey.

Martyn Latchman, 38, flew to Istanbul and had the cosmetic procedure on July 28 at a private clinic called CINIK in the city’s Besiktas neighbourhood – where footballer Rio Ferdinand was also treated – and was rushed to hospital but later died.

Staff and doctors at the clinic – which gets a 4.8 review rating on Google – were questioned about the death by Istanbul Province Health Directorate who launched an investigation.

Shortly after the surgery, which lasted five hours, the Brit became unwell and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He died shortly after.

According to the clinic’s website Dr Cinik has treated more than 50,000 patients since setting up almost 20 years ago and there is even a branch in London.

The website says the clinic has ‘cutting edge technology’ and is a ‘centre of excellence in this specialised field’.

A hair transplant in Turkey can cost as little as £1,500 compared to between £3,000 and £10,000 in Britain.
