A survivor of Fred West’s ‘House of Horrors’ has urged the serial killer’s incarcerated wife Rose to ‘come clean’ about the couple’s brutal murder spree and tell police if there are more undiscovered victims.

Jayne Hamer, 63, was a teenage runaway when she went to live with the Wests at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester in 1976 before she escaped the home, believing she could ‘be next’.

The Wests regularly took on lodgers at the house where they lived from 1972 until their arrests in 1994, and committed vile acts of torture, rape and murder against young women and girls – some their own daughters.

The notorious killers committed at least 12 murders from 1967 to 1987, but are suspected of having carried out more. While Fred took his own life behind bars, Rose, who turns 70 on November 29, remains in prison after almost 30 years.

Now Jayne has urged her former landlady to ‘finally come clean about everything’ she and her husband did so families can ‘get on with their lives’, pleading: ‘If there are any more victims, please, Rose, put their families first.’

Unaware of what lay behind the wall’s of 25 Cromwell Street while she was staying there, Jayne later discovered the horrors she had been just inches away from.

‘I found out later I was never lonely in my room because one of the victims was buried behind the fireplace. There was a body under the bath, too, that we all used,’ she told The Mirror.

‘I lived in Cromwell Street and still did not realise the extent of things that were going on.

‘They presented as so normal, pleasant, polite. I still think is what happened real because they disguised themselves so well.

‘I cannot fathom how they got away with it, dismembering and burying all those victims. It doesn’t seem possible.’

Jayne said that while Fred had initially appeared to be the ‘perfect landlord’, a series of disturbing goings-on made her decide she had to leave the house.

She recalls how she was taken into the cellar by Fred – where dismembered bodies of some of his victims were later found.

While reluctant, she agreed to go and complimented him on the room, which she quickly noticed had a bed against the wall, murals, and a box of toys.

She told him she was claustrophobic and managed to get out, describing the room as akin to a ‘hunter’s lair’.

Jayne said that one night, she heard Fred ‘taking his own daughter’ – which was so disturbing it made her mind up to leave, potentially saving her life.

Rose West is currently one of very few female prisoners in the UK serving a life tariff.

She and her husband even killed their eldest daughter Heather, who Jayne looked after while living with them, in June 1987.

Fred, who confessed to the killings, committed suicide in his cell while on remand at HMP Birmingham on New Year’s Day, 1995.

Other victims included Alison Chambers, 16, Shirley Robinson, 18, Juanita Mott, 18, Shirley Hubbard, 15, Theresa Siegnethaler, 21, Lucy Partington, 21, Carol Ann Cooper, 15, Lynda Gough, 19, Rena Costello (Fred’s ex-wife), 27, Charmaine West (Fred’s daughter), 8, and Anne McFall, 18.
