Melbourne Demons AFL premiership winner Kysaiah Pickett has welcomed the birth of his first child in a heartwarming post on Instagram.
The 22-year-old forward beamed with pride as he sat beside his partner Ardu Cubillo and their new arrival, with the joint post captioned: ‘19.04.24. The best day of our lives,’ with a love heart emoji.
He had indicated that he had become a father during Melbourne’s round 7 win over Richmond, making a baby cradling gesture after he scored.
Pickett is known for keeping his private life out of the spotlight but a quick look at his Instagram shows he’s known Cubillo for at least a year.
He has previously posted photos of them posing in the hallway of a property and also put up a shot of her on walking a dog.

Pickett had good news of a different sort earlier this year when he signed a fresh contract with the Demons.
He signed a four-year contract with the club he helped steer to the 2021 premiership, despite being chased by Port Adelaide and other teams.
‘I’m very excited to be signing on and continuing my career in the red and blue,’ he said after putting pen to paper back in May.
‘The club has embraced me and my family, and I can’t thank them enough for their support. Everything I do is to make my family proud and the respect and understanding my teammates and coaches have shown us means a lot.
‘I’m very thankful to all the fans for their support too and am excited to be part of the club for at least another four years.’

Since first starring for the Dees in 2020, Pickett has scored 85 goals in 125 games, and was an AFL Rising Star nominee in his debut season.
After Melbourne’s 2021 grand final win he dedicated his premiership medal to two family members who died that year.
Pickett had two mothers – his birth mother Olivia and ‘old mum’ Rebecca, who was one of the loved ones he paid tribute to after the victory.
‘My mum and my pop passed away, so basically everything I do is for them and for my family,’ he said after the match.
