    • It is the latest example of ‘sunbed wars’ at tourist hotspots

A Dutch woman sick of people hogging the best spots by the pool at a Turkish resort decided to take matters into her own hands and removed towels from sun loungers that had already been occupied the night before.

While it’s not clear who laid the towels down, sunbeds have been the focal point of countless battles between the likes of British and German tourists vying for top spots at European resorts.  And as this furious vigilante shows, it seems the Dutch are just as riled by those who unfairly hog prime loungers.

The woman, who goes by the username effi.sxx on TikTok, was walking past the pool of a Turkish resort at 2am when she noticed that a whole row of sunbeds had already been taken up by other hotel guests who had put down their towels and other belongings to claim their spot.

Fed up with their selfish behaviour, the woman decided to teach them a lesson and removed their towels from their poolside seats.

A video posted on her TikTok account shows the woman removing the yellow hotel towels from the loungers, as well as other objects left by tourists, including pool toys and sandals.

‘Why not just do it the honest way? First come, first served’, the woman captioned the video.

Items such as pool towels and toys were left on sunbeds by holidaymakers. The woman's video had mixed reactions, with some calling her behaviour unnecessary. Others, however, backed her and said they shared her frustration

However, many social media users were unimpressed with the sunbed vigilante, with one person commenting: ‘Who are you to touch other people’s things?’, while another user said: ‘I would be irritated too. But touching other people’s things is really going too far for me…’.

‘You really came to the wrong place,’ another wrote.

Yet others were understanding of the woman’s frustration and defended her, with some even admitting they have done the same thing.

One user said: ‘I always throw away other people’s junk in the afternoon when I see that they are gone for more than an hour and a half’.

Another person commented: ‘I’m in Antalya now, its driving me crazy too – Towels everywhere and no one to see for hours’.

Every year, several images and videos surface on social media of holidaymakers sprinting to claim the best spot at the beach or pool.

Laying down a towel or other belongings on a lounger has become a common tactic used by tourists to mark their territory, which in some cases can even break into a fight.

Just this weekend, raging sunseekers got into a brawl on an Italian beach after they were denied loungers in a prime spot near the shoreline.

Two women demanded they be given sunbeds close to the sea, putting them in front of people who had already been on the beach for hours, a local government official said, citing a witness.

Lifeguards refused and a vicious fight broke out between the women and members of the public, with footage showing them wrestling and yanking each other’s hair.

Also, foreign holidaymakers in Majorca have recently been seen marking their territory on the beach by hogging the straw-covered umbrellas by the water by hanging towels and T-shirts on the poles before the sunbeds are brought out in the morning.
